McKinney Dentists Discuss Tooth Bonding and Contouring
Do you have a chipped tooth or gaps between your teeth that you wish you could fix? Are you ashamed or embarrassed to smile because of stained or misaligned teeth? McKinney Dentist can make your wishes come true to fix these problems by offering bonding and contouring!
Our McKinney dentists perform bonding and contouring as a cosmetic restoration service to fix a slightly imperfect smile. Cosmetic bonding is perfect for:
- A chipped tooth
- Slightly misaligned tooth
- Slightly imperfect tooth
- Decayed tooth (the resin will fill the cavity area)
- Discolored teeth
- Gaps between teeth (bonding will fill in these spaces)
- Irregular shaped or asymmetric teeth (contouring will change the tooth’s shape)
- Sometimes an alternative to porcelain veneers
Once you opt for the bonding and contouring service, we will complete the procedure in one office visit (30 to 60 minutes per tooth)— quick, easy, and painless (often no shots required) with minimal prep-work!
The bonding material is composed of a liquid composite resin (durable plastic), which is custom-shaded to match your tooth’s natural color. The resin is actually comparable to sculptor’s clay. Essentially, we will bond the resin to the tooth’s surface in order to rebuild or touch-up the shape (or contour) of your tooth— hence the name “bonding and contouring.”
This simple procedure is quite easy to understand.
- Specifically, we will first roughen the tooth’s surface and apply a conditioning liquid, which enables the bonding material to fully adhere to the tooth.
- Then our talented dentists will creatively sculpt and apply the resin, and harden it with a curing light.
- Polishing the bonded tooth is the last step in creating your beautiful smile!
Do you have a chipped tooth or gaps between your teeth that you wish you can fix?
We consider cosmetic bonding to be an affordable, aesthetically-pleasing alternative to porcelain veneers. If you are interested in the concept of porcelain veneers, but do not want them for some reason or another, we recommend bonding and contouring (providing you are a suitable candidate).
However, you should note that bonding typically only lasts from 5 to 10 years, providing you exercise effective and consistent at-home oral care. Furthermore, we may recommend touch-up teeth whitening or touch-ups to ensure that your natural tooth color matches the bonded area. This suggestion lies in the fact that bonding does not change the color of your natural tooth enamel.
If you are ready to smile more confidently, you can make your bonding and contouring appointment with one of our highly skilled cosmetic dentists. We will happily perform a comprehensive evaluation to determine if you are a suitable candidate for cosmetic bonding and contouring.
