Accurate Oral Cancer Detection Using ViziLite® Plus with TBlue630™
Did you know that nearly 7,500 people each year die from oral cancer and approximately 30,000 people per year are diagnosed?
As a matter of fact, oral cancer is the number six form of cancer worldwide. For the past 40 years, one person every hour has died from oral cancer. These statistics are astounding and scary, right?
Well, wouldn’t it be beneficial if your dentist can give you an oral cancer screening during your appointment?
At McKinney Dentist, we do not want you or your family to join the statistics, which is why we offer oral cancer screenings. Our dentists, Dr. Berlin, Dr. Markham, and Dr. Lynch are highly skilled, and equipped with the knowledge and technology to perform oral cancer screenings.
In addition to our visual exam, we use ViziLite® Plus with TBlue630™ to more accurately screen for oral cancer. It is composed of two elements: a chemiluminescent light source (called ViziLite) to help us identify potential problem areas.
The process is quite simple
You will rinse with the ViziLite Plus Pre-Rinse Solution for one minute, and then one of our team members will shine a light into your mouth to identify any suspicious areas. Any potential lesion will be “highlighted.”
If any “hot spots” are found, we then take it a step further and paint on the TBlue630 die, which will stain any potential cancer blue.
Any areas found to be potential problems will be referred to an oral cancer specialist who can take things to the next step of diagnosis and treatment.
With the two elements (ViziLite and the blue dye) working hand in hand, the dentist and/or hygienist will be able to identify and evaluate abnormalities in your mouth. Once the exam is finished, if there is evidence of lesions or other oral cancer signs, our dentists will determine the best path for treatment (i.e. biopsy).
Being screened with our ViziLite system is an extraordinary opportunity to ensure that you and your family do not have precancerous or cancerous oral lesions.
Employing ViziLite technology puts our patients at ease, knowing their oral health is up to par. Most of all, the exam is simple, fast, and non-invasive, taking approximately 2 minutes!
Just like any form of cancer, early detection is key. To be more safe than sorry, schedule your annual oral cancer screening today with one of our North Texas dentists. You surely will not regret it! Call us today to schedule your dental appointment and oral cancer screening!
